Hegybor – or „Hill wine” this is a community wine brand, that means a rigorous quality control, respect of the terroir and typicity. Grown on marl and dolomite soils in the Csopak area of Lake Balaton.
Organic grapes. Short skin maceration. Fermentaed an aged in steel tanks. 6 months on the lees.
Peach, apple, citrus and almonds notes. Medium body and acidity with a dry, mineral finish.
Németi Zoltán, Screwcapped:
A different take on the variety. Taut and acid driven. Lots of reduction on the nose, shows the ageing on fine lees, and this gives intensity and a bit of a Burgundy character – I like that. Crisp acidity, a tight palate, but no phenolics so it’s not edgy. There is substance and concentration, too, to match those acids. Lots of flavour and intensity, it’s a serious wine, built for the long run. If opening now, give it lots of air, but preferably put it away for a few years. Very good wine, 88 points.
James Suckling: 91 points
