The region of Somló is located in Northern Transdanubia, at the foot of an extinct volcano. It is the smallest AOC in Hungary. Juhfark is one of the star grape varieties of the region, it offers a yellow color with greenish reflections. Its wine is rich, opulent and elegant which naturally has a very nice acidity linked to the volcanic soil. The "Somló's vagabond", Kis Tamás, has been working on the mountain since 2010 and is probably the most talented young winemaker. Organic culture.
This Juhfark is made from grapes from a head-pruned, bush-vine vineyard planted in terraces (“teraszok” in Hungarian). The vineyard is located right next to the Somlói Vándor Winery’s tasting room, on the idyllic southern slope of Somló hill. 25-year-old vines, spontaneous fermentation in barrels, aged in large barrels for 10 months. The wine has the classic Somló minerality, next to a ripe fruit profile and a long finish.
This is an excellent example of Somló Juhfark.
