Barta Winery is family-owned with vineyards planted on volcanic soil (rhyolite tuff, zeolite and red clay). Öreg Király (Old King) is a Historical Grand Cru, first mentionned in 1278, classified in the early 1700's. This elegant and complex dessert wine is made from bunches of late-harvest Furmint grapes that contain a proportion affected by botrytis, producing bold and exciting flavours. Classic way of making Szamorodni with 24 hours’ skin contact, spontaneous fermentation and aging in oak barrels for 18 months.
Caramelised hazelnuts, dried apricots and candied citrus on the nose. The palate offers fresh pineapple, plums, marmalade and dulce de leche, with a fine seam of acidity running through. Aa hint of honeycomb toffee and minerality with a vibrant spiciness in the finish. Glossy textured and incredibly moreish!
“This sweet Szamorodni demonstrates its already familiar form. Its structure is distinct, well-defined acids, refined tannins. The barrel is still apparent, but its aromas are led by the significant Botrytis and citrus character with a deeper, tobacco, forest mushroom close. Very mineral at the end of the sip.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
